What's New? Thank You Dundee Community!
Mobile Perky Pantry of Dundee, MI, made a donation to our grade level fund. Lisa Gizzi, through The Dundee Daddy/Daughter Dance made a donation to our grade level fund. The Dundee PTSA made a significant donation that went toward purchasing listening centers for every classroom. These donations are GREATLY appreciated by the Dundee Elementary Staff and our students. The money in our grade level fund goes toward purchasing such things as assembly performances, recess equipment, Bucket Filler rewards, and helping send students with financial need on field trips. FROM THE DESK OF OFFICER MEYER I am sure many parents have noticed my presence before and after school patrolling in front of the Elementary School. When dropping off and picking up your children, please remember that Adams is a one way street from 7:30 AM until 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM. When Adams goes to one way, the third lane needs to remain open with no double parking. When arriving before 2:30 PM, when stops along the curb are filled, begin waiting in the right lane for your child. As a consideration for the handicap students please do not block those spots in front of the school. April 27, 3013 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM there will be a Safety Day in the Walgreens parking lot. Fingerprints will be available as well as Emergency vehicles on display for the children. I can be contacted at ext. 2238 for any questions or concerns. Officer Meyer Congratulations MCISD Young Author Representatives from DES Our 3rd and 4th grade participated in the MCISD Young Authors’ Program by creating their own book. The books were assessed/judged and five students from 3rd and 4th grade were selected to be recognized at the MCISD the afternoon of March 5th. The selected students will have the opportunity to meet Johnathan Rand, who has written more than 75 books with well over four million copies in print. Congratulations to the following students who were selected to represent Dundee Elementary: Hannah Behm, Nicholas Bellaire, Elena Borbely, Abigail Fahey, Allyson Franzel, Paxton Hovey, Kaiden Hubbel, Emma Lloyd, Megan Marion, and Matthew Wittkop Winter NWEA Testing Dundee Community Schools are currently in the winter NWEA assessment window. All students kindergarten through 11th grade participate in the assessment. The assessment not only gives students, teachers, and parents data that indicates what each student is ready to learn, but helps educators better design student learning to meet each child’s unique needs. We will be sharing NWEA data with parents later on in March. Welcome Netbooks!! Our elementary gladly welcomed a set of 32 netbooks this month! This has allowed our teachers and students to bring even more technology into the classroom as they publish projects, complete assessments, or even complete a little research with a tool that simply looks like a mini laptop. Where our computer labs are often filled up throughout the week, our students will now experience the novelty of 32 computers right at their seat!! EXCITING NEWS! We have Accelerated Reading on the Web!!! Accelerated Reading has been a supportive reading tool for quite a while at Dundee Schools. It allows your child to choose a book of their liking within a range that encourages language development at their own pace. Accelerated Reading on the Web, which we recently purchased, allows us to open up a whole new set of books to our students at DES! If you're interested or want to check out your children's library, click on http://www.arbookfind.com/! Thanks! Teacher Websites a HIT! As you've noticed, our elementary website has taken on a new look. Similar information is available along with an addition of student and parent resources. In addition, many of elementary teachers have created their own classroom page full of information and resources. Check them, out! Creating Our Own eBooks! The subscription cost of eBooks is rather expensive, so consequently, we decided to create our own......for all DES teachers and students to use! Applications were filled out, interviews were completed, and now over 200 ebooks, read by brave Young 5-4th graders, are housed in a shared network folder for all to use at DES! |
